FLY SKY HOME
Please take action now by donating $25.
The Cerna Foundation is desperate to fly Sky home to his family in Texas.
19-year-old Skyler Esquivel, an aspiring musician was a passenger in a friend’s car when an accident occurred resulting in a traumatic brain injury. Please open your heart to help this family in crisis. $12.5k is urgently required to transport him via air ambulance from California. Bring this boy home.
PLEASE DONATE AT LEAST $25; our goal is 500 donors. Donations of $25 or more receive a complimentary “Skyler Comeback Tour” tee-shirt.
Skyler Esquivel is a musician. Playing songs on his red guitar and changing the world through his music is what he loves. “The stage is where my heart belongs”, he says. Guitar in hand, Skyler would walk out on stage with his bandmates and strum out worship songs that praise God. At 19 years old, Skyler’s a Christian kid looking to be a guiding light for others in this sometimes dark and confusing world.
CATASTROPHIC CAR ACCIDENT
On August 2nd things changed forever for Skyler and his family when he was in a horrific car accident. He and his friends were involved in a head on collision. Skyler was airlifted to Northridge Hospital where doctors didn’t know if he would survive. Skyler suffered severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). He would need a craniotomy and several surgeries due to blood clots and strokes from the trauma. His condition remained critical.
Miraculously, Skyler not only survived but is making slow progress toward improving his condition. Although he remains in the CCU in a minimally conscious state, his brain and body show signs of healing. Hopefully soon, Skyler’s family will be able to bring him home for a time to continue the recovery. During this era of Covid, when contact is so limited, Skyler still needs to hear loved one’s voices and feel the warm touch of their hands.
COSTLY MEDICAL ESSENTIALS NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE
Skyler’s care is going to be extremely expensive, to say the least. Thankfully, health insurance covers some of the costs associated with the accident. Unfortunately, it’s usually a minimal amount. It’s true too, that the family doesn’t know what kind of care Skyler may need ongoing. Some of what he needs is medical equipment, medical supplies and highly trained staff including nurses, therapists and other trained clinicians to have the best chance at the greatest recovery possible!
DONATE SMALL, THEN SHARE WITH ALL
The Cerna Foundation has joined forces with the family to help raise funds and help coordinate care for Skyler. Founded in 2013 it is the passion of co-founders Marc Friedman and Nick Payzant to help those patients who need the most care and are the most challenged. Skyler’s is certainly a challenging case due to the extent of his brain injury. He and his family need your help to ensure everything they need is available to them. A donation doesn’t have to be a lot of money.
As, Marc Friedman likes to say…
”The $5 you spent on Starbucks ‘pre-Covid’ can be donated to the foundation now! Just that $5 can make an impact because if a lot of people do it, suddenly you’ve got a heck of a lot of money to help those in need.”
So if you can, please help us help Skyler. One hundred percent of the donation goes to Skyler and his family’s needs.
